EGA

This is an image of the secondary school I attended, which is located in South London.
This image represents what the outside of my school looks like, somewhere I had spent 5 years of my childhood in education. What this image means to me is my journey of growing up, and how I can reflect on the different stages in my life. During secondary school I built relationships, memories and also learnt some life lessons. Comparing my secondary school to me now being in college, I realise how much harder I now have to work and accept responsibilities.

Skate Park

This is an image of the Stockwell skate park, which is local to my house in South London.
What this Image represents is somewhere I used to enjoy going when I was younger, as I used to take my bike there to try stunts. What this image means to me is a point in my childhood where I was experimenting different sports and was very active. I used to come to this skate park with my siblings and practice stunts for hours. This image also makes me realise how much more busy I have become growing up, as I have less time to do playful activities because I am more focused on my exams.

56

This is an image of my door number. 56.
This is the number which allows visitors and post-men mainly, to identify that this is where me and my family live. These numbers count down the houses in my neighbourhood, making it easier to refer to where exactly a person resides. This number does not mean much to me in the present, but if I were to move houses, this door number would be crucial information to my childhood and identity.

Last Stop - Brixton

This is an image of a Southbound platform in Stockwell station.
This is a platform I use when I am returning home from college on weekdays. The significance of this platform is not only that it takes me home, but it only travels to one stop, which is the last stop on the Victoria Line. What I am representing is the route I religiously take to get home everyday from college.

Virgin Atlantic - Terminal 3

This is an image of the entrance which leads you to terminal 3, within Heathrow Airport.
What this image means to me is, as I am a regular customer to the airline 'Virgin Atlantic' I am very familiar with walking through this entrance to get there. As a young child, I always enjoyed travelling with my family and being able to explore different countries. This image represents the excitement I used to feel seeing this board, knowing I was getting closer and closer to boarding a plane. The tunnel-type path made me feel like I was on an adventure, and put me in a good mood because airport experiences are fun for me. This image represents one of my favourite places to be because travelling is something I love to do.

Beliefs

This is an image of a holy Qur'an, which is something very important and meaningful to me and my family. This is because my parents are muslim, so they believe in a God called 'Allah'. What this book means to me is something that I read to gain knowledge, and understanding about a higher power. My family and I accept the ideologies within this book, using it as guidance to how we live our lives. The image being taken from a low angle, is used to emphasise the superiority of this book and its holiness.

Escalator Advertisement

I took this image whilst coming down an elevator in Green Park. This image represents how print advertisements are all around us for the public to consume. Print advertisements tend to transmit messages very quickly, so that it catches the attention of the people using the escalator who will glance at it. I usually notice the posters on the wall, to be of West End musicals which are in London. What this means to me is the things I notice and consume every time I use underground transport, and how the media can be advertised in different ways.

Transport Luxury

This image of a Mercedes car represents one of my goals to be able to have a luxurious form of transport. This car being shiny and new connotes high class, which would appeal to the Mercedes Benz target audience. What this means to me is the motivation I have to work hard, to be able to purchase nice things and live comfortably. Seeing cars like this and desiring it, reminds me of how much work I have to do in order to get a good job and be able to afford cars like this. Mercedes Benz also being one of my favourite car brands, makes this image ideal to represent one of my future goals.

Nature vs. Technology

This is an image of an apple iPhone and a natural apple. What this image represents is the contrast between technology and nature, as they are both apples with complete different purposes. The apple on the left is a natural apple, one that is healthy for you and edible. Whereas the apple on the right is a product of the Apple iPhone collection, which is an advanced phone device and also a digital media outlet. These objects have complete different effects on my life despite having the same name, and by owning both I am able to compare them. The iPhone is something many youths of this generation feel they need to have to fit in and be cool. People who buy the iPhones consume the ideologies within the Apple iPhone advertisements, which uses iconic representation when releasing their new product. This appeals to their intended audience as they will want to have the latest iPhone, and utilise the advanced features of the phone.

Traffic

This is an image of traffic in Clapham South taken from an eye angle. What this image represents is how traffic can delay people but also the public roads system. It represents order on the streets that is controlled by the government, and how there are rules in place to keep control and make sure things run smoothly. I personally dislike traffic when I am in a rush to get somewhere, because it makes me late and unhappy about it. The different types of cars connote different class, jobs and lifestyle of the people driving the cars. For example, the Audi Jeep could suggest the person driving it is likely to be middle-class.

15/05/1997

This is where I was born, on the 15th of May 1997. What I am representing in this image is my birthplace and a part of my history. What this image means to me is the hospital I was born in and the country I was born into. This makes me think of my mother and the journey we have both had from this hospital, to me now being 17 years old. This image also represents the vital job role nurses and doctors have, how lives are born, lost and saved everyday in hospitals such as St.Thomas'.

Dreams Of..

Sleep. If you don't enjoy your sleep, you don't work hard enough. This thought comes from me being an A level student.
What this image represents is somewhere I enjoy being and find very comfortable, in my own bed. This represents a place I am able to dream about things, such as my goals, ambitions and most fairy-tale desires. What this image means to me is somewhere I go to release any stress, or when I am weak or unwell this is the place I can fully rest.

Waiting in the Que...

This is an image of a food shopping queue in Marks & Spencer's. This is something I dislike to do, which is wait in long lines in order to be served. Yes, I am somewhat an impatient person, but I feel like waiting in long queues are quite a waste of time especially when I am in a rush. I don't enjoy waiting too long, so what I am representing is something I am likely to complain about in my everyday life.

“Music is the universal language of mankind.”

This is an image of an iPhone and a Dre Beats headphone, two things which play an important role in my life. This is because I cannot go a day without listening to music and I use my phone to play the music 95% of the time. Music is something that can inspire me in my everyday life, giving me motivation or simply causing positivity and happiness. This image represents a universal language, something which can evoke the same feeling from different people. Music is also a type of mass media, meaning it can deliver information to millions of people at a time. This image also represents how in this generation, we have access to advanced technology such as iPhone 6 and extremely high quality headphones such as Dre Beats; to listen to the music from.

Friendship Group

This is an image of me and my group of friends different trainers, taken from a high angle. This image represents the different styles and personalities of my friends, but how we are a group and share a close friendship.
What this image means to me is the memories and good times I have with my friends, and how we all share a special bond from being friends for a long time. This image connotes youthfulness as all the footwear in the image are trendy trainers. The variety of trainer brand also connotes us all having different lifestyles, fashion sense and ambitions showing we are all still our own individuals within our friendship group.

PINK Leaves?

This is an image of a tree which is right outside my college, which has grown beautiful pink flowers. In the winter the flowers were not as bright and vibrant as they are now, but now the prettiness of the tree catches my attention. What I am also representing in this image is nature, and something that I find of nature to be beautiful. I feel like this tree is more-so decorative to the outside of my college, and gives a spring feeling to my college community.

Parliament for the People

This is an image I took outside of Parliament. What this image means to me is that this is where the decision makers of the United Kingdom address issues of the country. As a young girl I have always had a passion for writing and debating, coming to the conclusion at about 15 years old, that I wanted to become a lawyer. I have had a tour around parliament twice before, once on a secondary school trip and then for my AS Politics course. Being a lawyer is a very traditional career, which has several links to parliament such as the debating, being in court and arguing for and against something. What I am representing in this image is my goal to become a lawyer and become a credible speaker.

Work It Out

This is an eye level angle of my local gym in Brixton.
This image represents a hobby of mine which is swimming, and also a recent hobby I have taken up which is going to the gym. What this image means to me is my determination to live a healthier lifestyle, do more exercise and be fit. This image also represents the ideology I have in common with the people in my gym, which is caring about my body image and wanting to look good.
There are people of all: race, age, shape and size that attend my gym, who may accept the media's dominant ideology of what a perfect man or woman should look like. This would make them and I want to work hard in the gym, trying to gain the unattainable image of someone we aspire to look like in the media. The opinion leaders in the media decide what type of 'fit' is the norm through mass media outlets such as magazines, which would be a slim man or woman with abs. This means that the people who are not 'fit' as seen in the media, will try to attain that body image that is represented as fit, making society succumb to their ideology regardless.

You are on CCTV

This is what the entrance of Brixton village looks like. This is somewhere I would go with my mother sometimes, to do home food shopping and to buy other things we may need in our house. What I am representing in this image is somewhere in London I am very familiar with, and go to often when I am running errands for my parents. I have been aware of Brixton village all my life and it has looked the same since I can last remember. Brixton village contains sales such as various fruit stands, meat shops and restaurants.

Fondness

     " We love people who’ve died ...
where’s the social utility in that?
Maybe it means more - something we
      can’t understand, yet. Maybe it’s
      some evidence, some artefact of
      higher dimensions that we can’t
      consciously perceive. Love is the
      one thing we’re capable of
      perceiving that transcends
dimensions of time and space. Maybe
we should trust that, even if we
      can’t yet understand it." - Interstellar 2014
With this image I wanted to represent the ideology of love and attachment.
There are a number of people in my life that I love very dearly, some more than others, such as my family and my closest mates. This image represents the idea that love has different forms and it can be expressed in various ways. By these two people holding hands being such a simple gesture, it still manages to connotes trust, bonding and affection between the two people. Holding hands could be seen as a romantic gesture, but it could also be a way of keeping someone safe. What this image means to me is how it is in our human nature to become attached to things, and to want to be loved and cared for. Like the bond a mother has with her child, love is powerful.

Whats with me, everyday

This is a close-up shot of items that I carry around with my everyday, everywhere.
These items are essential to me as my keys are needed to get into my house, my Vaseline is so my lips don't get dry and my glasses help me see better. What I am representing in this image are things that are important to me and a part of my daily routine. My set of keys are something I've had for over a decade, and I am used to not leaving my house without it.

Half Empty or Half Full?

Are you an optimist or pessimist?
This image represents the way in which I see life to be half full instead of half empty. Despite being quite an melancholy person, I do feel that most times in my life my glass is half full. This is because I feel that a positive mind-set alone can fill the cup halfway, and trying or admitting something is the first step. This applies to me in terms of life goals and targets I set for myself, some being within a week some being within a year. A lot of things do make me feel pessimistic at times, such as work and not being able to do things I want to do. However, being a religious person I feel by having faith in God and praying the glass will keep filling up.
Being pessimistic or negative is discouraging, and it only takes up time that could be used to start fixing the problem.

Identity

This is who I am.. to the government.
This is an image of my British passport and my college ID. This image represents my identity as these things allow institutions to establish who I am. My college ID which was given to me on my first day, ensures staff in my college when I wear it that I am a student in the right college. On the other hand, my passport represents me on a much wider scale. This allows people to know that I am a British citizen who has the right to live in the UK and apply all of it's human rights. It also enables me to work in the UK, move, reside and work freely throughout the European Union.

Do you know your history?

This is an image of the things I use when I am revising for my A level history course.
I have been studying A level history for a few months now, and It is safe to say I have definitely learned things about the world I did not know before. This particular book is on republicanism in Spain which is 1/4 of my history A level, and is what I have been studying in class most recently. What I am representing in this image is something new and educative to me, that I have started to spend time practising so I can do well in my exam.

St.James Crescent

This is an image of a part of my neighbourhood called 'St. James's Crescent'.
This is the area I grew up in, and the road I would take to get to the sweet shop and the park. I loved going to the sweet shop and the park. When I was young, the ice-cream man used to park at the end of this road and my brother and I would race to it. What this image means to me is the society I was brought up in and the things around me I could only learn from; ideologies I knew no better than to accept. I have changed this image to black and white to add a feel of historic narration, as the board saying 'St. James's Crescent' looks as if it is almost leading you into my story.

Winter 04'

This is an image of the front grass in my neighbourhood, the only place I was allowed to play as a child. This image of the front grass is significant to me, as it taught me boundaries and made me realise the stages in my life I was given more and more freedom. My parents would only allow me to play out on this front grass so they could make sure I was safe, so they could check on me. What I am representing through this image is a part of me growing up, and understanding the smallest things our parents do which mean a lot. This image reminds me of the way  I was so competitive as a young child when playing sports. I used to love playing out on this front grass. I still do.

Running in or out of Time?

"Time is the only true unit of measure. It gives proof to the existence of matter. Without time, we don't exist." - Lucy 2014

I am intrigued by the different arguments in the philosophy of human existence and time.
What this image means to me is the reminder that nothing in life is promised and anything can happen. It reminds me that time waits for nobody and I have to make the most of my one, and only, life whilst I have it. I tend to ponder about where life will take me and what I will become in 2,5 and 10 years. Time allows me to grow, gain knowledge, develop, make mistakes but also leave those mistakes in the past to move forward.
What I am representing through this image is the idea of free will through time, and how we as people can only truly be in control of our own lives and our own actions.
